What to do

This list could be endless...

St Ives has everything, from numerous outdoor activities to art and culture...

… but to help you out we’ve categorised the various activities. These are just the highlights though, when you arrive at Cohort our staff will be happy to share their top tips and local secrets with you – do ask in order to get the most out of your stay.

(As an aside see a Digital Postcard from Visit Cornwall on our blog to get an overview of what St Ives has to offer)

Surfing / Surf ‘n Stay

St Ives has great surfing on the stunning Porthmeor Beach. We love St Ives Surf School who provide a range of lessons to suit all levels of surfing ability. They also have equipment hire for those of you that just want to go it alone.

If you really want to give this a shot we have great surf and accommodation packages for 2+ people, visit Cohort Hostel Surf ‘n Stay.

Watersports

Stand up Paddleboard (SUP), coasteering, kayaking and fishing trips… it’s all here. From St Ives’ 5 fabulous beaches you have the choice of numerous activities, all of which can be booked through us in advance or when you arrive at Cohort.

Kitesurfing & Kite buggying

Fancy doing something completely different? Try your hand at kitesurfing or kitebuggying: With free transport from Cohort to whichever beach has the best conditions it’s a great opportunity to do something truly unique. We work closely with the guys at JB Adventures and can advise on the different courses and opportunities they offer.

Art & Culture

The Tate, Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden, the St Ives Museum and Bernard Leach Pottery are all within a 15 minute walk of Cohort and on your way to any of them you’ll pass at least 10 galleries. There’s the Guildhall just down the road which has various music and theatrical events throughout the year, the Arts Club and the Boathouse Theatre; and that’s just in St Ives!

Sightseeing

From St Michael’s Mount to Trewidden Gardens to the Minack Theatre and Lands End; there is plenty to see and all within easy reach from Cohort. If you’re a member of the National Trust you will certainly get your money’s worth down in SW Cornwall.

Walking

The SW Coastal Path isn’t famous for nothing. It’s over 600 miles of stunning coastal scenery and well maintained footpaths; whether you’re walking the coastal path over a period of time or just want to do some great circular walks from St Ives we can help you plan your day’s (or half day’s) walking.

Fishing

There is phenomenal fishing off the coast of Cornwall and there are some great trips you can do which leave from St Ives Harbour, just a short walk from Cohort. Whether you have never fished before or are an experienced angler there is something for you; trips can be as short as 90 minutes or take up the whole day – all depends on how far you want to go and what varieties of fish you want to see.

Cycling

There are some great cycle routes throughout SW Cornwall and not all of them are even that hilly. If you don’t have your own bike but want to give it a go we highly recommend Lands End Cycle Hire who will deliver and collect bikes from Cohort free of charge; and there are some truly fabulous routes from outside our front door.
