St Ives Farmers Market

May 7th, 2019

St Ives Farmers Market is a GOLD award winning, well established and TASTY community landmark in the heart of the town. The market runs every Thursday from 9.30am – 2pm at the Guildhall, all year round. There is something for everyone and it is not to be missed.

St Ives Farmers Market – Food

There are homemade jams, oils and vinegars, local vegetables, raw chocolate , local fish, eggs from rescue hens, meat from animals raised on the cliffs about 3 miles away, delicious marinated olives, vegan delights, cakes, cheese, salads, curry, quiche, more… choice is not a problem!

St Ives Farmers Market – Crafts

The market has a wonderful craft section too: A silversmith, a local photographer, jewellery and art made with sea glass. Tracy makes hilarious animal hats which are a kids favourite. Mike creates beautiful furniture using reclaimed palette wood; there is a potter and a wood turner who uses local woods to craft beautiful bowls and chopping boards. There’s a great choice of local plants too.

It doesn’t have to be a quick visit…

There’s a lovely cafe which often branches out into smoothies during summer months. Kat also provides her own made ‘Katjacks’ a delicious, healthy flapjack with a ton of wonderful ingredients! Sit down and soak up the atmosphere; there’s so much good cheer between people who visit the market every week and tourists in St Ives for the first time.

The buskers are the stars of the show at the market, they come each week – it’s the ultimate free gig so make sure you drop them some pennies on the way past.

Ethical and responsible…

  • All food is sourced, produced, raised, or grown locally and that means food miles are super low.
  • All traders are adjusting packaging strategies to provide compostable packaging and reduce their use of plastic.
  • You can even buy a shopping bag to put all your goodies in and dispose of your recycling in the bins provided.
  • The building has full access for wheelchairs, including toilets. Well behaved dogs on leads are allowed in.
  • Everyone is welcome, it’s even written on the banners outside the front.

It’s a plethora of goodness with the added bonus of being able to ask the trader questions about the products you’re buying. The whole experience of shopping here is memorable and it’s a great way to support and enjoy the community in which you’re a temporary resident.

Short walk from Cohort Hostel

It’s about a 30 second walk from our front door so if you’re staying with us on a Wednesday night make sure to put some time aside to visit Thursday morning; alternatively if you’re arriving Thursday get here early, we can always check you in before midday (even if your bed isn’t ready) – just leave your luggage with us and head right on over.

Blog written by our fab receptionist Caroline Turnbull who is also the market co-ordinator. If you see her hit her up for top tips on what’s coming up…
