Seasonal work in St Ives

March 28th, 2016

St Ives is a great place to spend the Summer, be it working behind a bar, waiting or getting your hands dirty (not that dirty) and doing some holiday-let / hotel cleaning. Enthusiasts among you might want to do all three but that may not leave that much time for surfing or sunbathing.

A season in St Ives

The season in St Ives lasts from Easter through to the end of October with the busiest months being June – September. If you’re on a gap year or just biding time between ski seasons it’s the best place to be. Cornwall has more sunshine hours than anywhere else in the UK and with great surf on your doorstep before and after work what more could you ask for? Even if you’re from the UK it’ll feel like a summer abroad.

There’s a great community of seasonal workers in St Ives, ranging from the young to not-so-young; people come back year after year and others end up moving here – like Cohort Hostel’s own manager Caroline (read all about her here) and her boyfriend Matty who is a surf instructor at St Ives Surf School. People get to know each other pretty quickly down here and will soon come to feel like family – we should know!

Jobs in St Ives

We have a pretty comprehensive Jobs Board at Cohort which is especially busy at this time of year as businesses staff up for the 2016 season. They can be looking for anyone from waitresses to chefs to kitchen porters (KPs) to bar staff to handymen – there’s jobs a-plenty.

Come with a love of the outdoors and a good work ethic and the town is yours for the taking. Head south from October or stay on with the folk you’ve met for the fabulous winter swells on Porthmeor Beach.
