Geography Trips

"I would highly recommend Cohort - superb staff, very professional, super clean and comfy - great and central location. Particularly enjoyed the complimentary coffee in the morning and well-earned beer in the evening! A huge Thank You." Caroline Shouksmith, Stover School

The physical and human geography of the region; its coastline, geology and industrial heritage make Cornwall a great destination and base for geography field trips.

Geography trips to St Ives not only benefit from the town itself, with all its facilities and activites, but also from its location in a truly diverse part of Cornwall.

St Ives is the jewel in Cornwall’s crown; with stunning beaches, a vibrant town and a phenomenal history which charts its rise from tiny, fishing village to the centre of international modern art to one of Britain’s most popular tourist destinations.

Exploring St Ives

Without leaving St Ives and its direct surrounds students are able to:

  • Understand and explore the effects of urbanisation and tourism on what once was a small fishing village
  • Discover the local geography and geology – using OS Maps to explore the surrounds of St Ives
  • Collect geographical data to be analysed
  • 4 hour Monitoring Workshop with West Country Rivers Trust covering monitoring tools and techniques and pollution risk mapping in the classrom; then hydrometric, water quality and biological monitoring along with a mini-catchment walkover out in the field
  • Meet with local environmental activists to understand the impact of single-use plastic and the measures being taken by local communities to limit its effect on the environment
  • Take part in, or initiate a beach clean with Beach Guardian who conduct educational workshops with schools
