Under 18s Policy

Age policy

Cohort Hostel is a specialist educational trip accommodation provider. In addition, Cohort Hostel is a family friendly hostel and will accept families with children over the age of 3 years old, as well groups and independent travellers.

  • Guests aged 3 – 15 years old must be accompanied by a person who is at least 21 years or older
  • Children and young people aged 12+ can stay in shared dormitory accommodation  (i.e. with other hostel guests) as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult who is at least 21 year old
  • Children aged 3 – 12 cannot stay in shared dormitory accommodation (i.e with other hostel users) and should be booked into private room or family room with an appropriate, responsible adult who is at least 21 years old
  • Guests aged 16 or over may stay in any accommodation type

Young person friendship groups (16 – 18 years)

  • We accept small (up to 8) friendship groups of young people as long as each member is over 16 years old
  • The booking must be made by someone 18 years or over such as a parent, guardian or another adult who can take responsibility for payment (or damages) even if they are not coming along for the stay.
  • We will require identification on arrival and will require the contact details of the person who made the booking
  • We will not sell alcohol to any member of a friendship group if any member of that group is under the age of 18.
  • Friendship groups are not permitted to drink alcohol in the building unless all members are aged 18 +

Accepting bookings from under 18s

Anyone under the age of 18 does not have the same legal capacity as an adult to enter into a contract, such as making a room booking.

All bookings itself should be made by someone 18 or over such as a parent, guardian or another adult who can take responsibility for payment or damages.

For example:

Example 1: A group of young people who are all 17 years and wish to stay at Cohort may do so, but the booking must be made by someone 18 or over such as a parent, guardian or another adult who can take responsibility for payment or damages (even if they are not coming along for the stay)

Example 2: A group of young people all of whom are 17, but one is 18, then the 18 who can take responsibility for payment or damages must make the booking for the group.

Identification on arrival

We will require all guests staying with us to have some form of photographic I.D. This does not apply to under 16 year olds accompanied by adults as part of a family unit or an organised group.

Reserve the right

We reserve the right to refuse entry on arrival to anyone not adhering to these guidelines; if this is the case NO refund will be given.
